Trying to teach a room full of students at varying levels of understanding and ability – to say nothing of their different personalities and preferences – is difficult at best. Yet good teachers dive into their curriculum working their hardest to give each student a meaningful educational experience in their classes. A huge part of their success is knowing how to motivate students so that they can be instructed in the way they most need for them to learn best. The use of Daniel Pink’s High Concept/High Touch theory gives you the opportunity to work hard and connect with all students while remaining empathetic to each student’s individual needs. Approaching curriculum with student engagement at the center allows you to understand the learning, styles, values, and needs of your students so that you can create levels of meaningful support for their engagement in your class.
